Have you ever wanted to win free craft beer for a year?
No, that’s not a typo. And yes, that’s a serious question.
Us? Of course we have. Winning a year’s supply of beer is something we think every craft beer drinker has fantasized about once or twice. Especially because A) We know it’s a quality product and B) Because craft beer ain’t cheap!
Well, one of our local breweries is giving away just that this weekend as part of their anniversary. Proof Brewing, which opened in Tallahassee in 2012 and is about to celebrate 12 years in business this weekend with one heck of a party. And we can’t wait to celebrate Tallahassee’s OG brewery which helped launch the local craft beer scene over a decade ago.
Get in line early
The action all kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. That’s when Proof’s doors will open and the first 100 people in line will receive a raffle ticket to be entered into a drawing for free beer for a year. In total, Proof is giving one lucky winner 15 cases of a variety of styles — totaling 360 cans of locally brewed beer. (And it was nice of them to stop short of 365 cans so your liver can have at least 5 days off!)
The only conditions are that you must be over the age of 21 to claim the prize — and you also must be present to win.
But the free beer for a year giveaway is just the tip of the iceberg for all that Proof has planned.

A dozen ways to celebrate
So 10 new beers total, plus two served in limited batches on cask. Talk about going all out for the BIG 12!
“Deciding to brew and release 12 beers for our 12th anniversary was driven by a desire to celebrate this milestone in a big, memorable way,” Proof co-owner Angela Burroughs, who opened the brewery with her husband Byron first off West Tennessee St., before moving it to Railroad Square and eventually to its forever home now at 1320 South Monroe. “It’s our way of saying thank you and showcasing the creativity and passion that go into our brewing process.”
So which one is Angela most-excited about releasing this weekend? “Picking a favorite out of the bunch is like choosing a favorite child — impossible! Each beer has its own story and flavor profile that we’re proud of,” Angela said, before adding with a laugh. “Honestly, we all know that is BS. Everyone does have a favorite child and mine will always be La La Land. So, the Peach Apricot Pineapple La La is my favorite on the list. But we invite everyone to come and find their personal favorite. It’s going to be a fantastic celebration; a mini beer festival right here in our taproom!”

T-shirts, cookies and music
Proof will have special anniversary T-shirts for sale with their 12th Anniversary logo, as well as a special dessert pop-up by local dessert vendor, Baked By Mayra. She was given the tap list weeks ago in advance and has curated a full lineup of desserts that pair with Proof’s anniversary beers, such as cherry limeade cookies, carrot cake cookies topped with cream cheese frosting and toasted pecans, waffle cookies with vanilla cream frosting and blueberry compote and mango creme brulee cookies.
Live music will kick off at 6 p.m. in the Proof beer garden, and performing this year will be local band Buck Banzai, which is led by longtime Proof brewhouse staffer Buck Lemons.

Celebrating with Little Victories
Proof is also releasing one if its anniversary beers in cans – Little Victories Hazy Double IPA, which is emblematic of the small wins Proof has enjoyed over the last 12 years — namely moving locations, expanding its distribution globally, launching its own Vodka brand and making it through the pandemic when the craft beer industry lost so many good breweries.
Byron said Tallahassee has shown so much support to Proof over the years, Saturday will feel like a big celebration with family.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to look back at the journey, especially the milestone of our 10th anniversary during such a challenging time globally. Making it to 12 years with strong momentum is a testament to the resilience and hard work of our entire team,” he said. “The pandemic tested us in ways we couldn’t have imagined, but it also showed us the power of adaptability and community support. Our philosophy has always been ‘Effort = Evolution.’ We believe that continuous effort and dedication to our craft and community are why we’ve managed to not only survive but thrive. We’re deeply grateful for our team’s perseverance and the unwavering support from our community.”
Angela took that gratitude one step further.
“To the incredible people of Tallahassee, we owe our deepest thanks,” she said. “Your loyalty and support have been the backbone of our success. Through three moves and countless challenges, you’ve stood by us, allowing us to grow and thrive. Your enthusiasm for what we do fuels our passion and drives us to continue innovating and improving. We are here because of you, and we do not take that for granted. We look forward to many more years of serving this community, bringing people together over great beer and food. Thank you for being an integral part of our journey.”
Looking to the future
What does the next 12 look like for Proof? Well, most immediately, it’s to just enjoy Saturday’s anniversary party and soak every moment in, Byron said. But from there? Let’s just say Proof has some plans.
“While we love celebrating the past, we’re equally excited about the future. Without giving too much away, let’s just say we’ve got some thrilling plans in the pipeline for 2024,” Byron said. “Expect new beer, spirits, and NA releases that push the boundaries of creativity and craftsmanship, and maybe a few surprises that we’re keeping under wraps for now. We’re always looking to elevate the craft beer experience we offer our community, and the coming year will be no exception.”
